MAHS NEWSLETTER  FALL 2014

We’ve just wrapped up another successful season at the Hack House, and we have some good things to report.

Sundays on the Porch:  This summer we had 190 visitors stop by the Hack House on Sunday afternoons.  Besides S.E. Michigan, we had visitors from Tennessee,  Ohio, North Carolina, New Mexico, California, Kentucky,  Washington State, Texas, Iron Mt. in the U.P. Canada, England, and even China!

Dine & Donate:  Thanks to all who participated in our efforts with the Lone Star Steak House in Dundee.  We had 3 events there (July10, August 14, and Sept. 11).  We earned a total of $530!!  What an enjoyable fundraiser for us.

Fall Festival:  It wasn’t exactly a glorious day, but it was warm and it didn’t rain until we were closing up.  We had approximately 150 visitors go through the house – some got past without signing our guest book so our count isn’t accurate.  We did have 142 actual sign-ins.  Our vendors reported good sales and were pleased with their day.  All in all, it was a total success!

Fire Truck:  Our 1938 fire truck has new home on Day Road.  This is a  temporary arrangement until something more permanent can be found. But at least it will be inside out of the weather for the winter.

Side Porch Roof:  Thanks to the Greater Milan Area Community Foundation for a $2,500 grant that greatly helped us fund the $6,024 replacement cost of the leaky roof on the large side porch at the Hack House.  The Foundation has been very generous to the Historical Society over the years and we are deeply appreciative of their support with our on-going projects.

Looking Ahead:   Mark your calendar for the following events
