History of the Society

The Milan Area Historical Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1972. Headquarters are located at the "Hack House" at 775 County Street. The mailing address is PO Box 245, Milan, MI 48160.

The purpose of the Society is to educate, collect, and preserve data relating to the City of Milan and the surrounding area, including London Township, Milan Township, Augusta Township, and York Township.

The society also has developed a historical museum. The Friend Hack House preserves Milan's past. Local history, artifacts, and items from Milan families are on display. It is open Sundays, 1pm to 4pm from May through September. For additional information or to make a special appointment, write the Milan Area Historical Society at P.O. Box 245, Milan, MI 48160.
