What is the Milan Area Historical Society?

We’re a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Milan, Michigan, and surrounding townships through exhibits, events, and education.

Where is the Hack House Museum located?

The Hack House is located at 775 County Street in Milan, MI.

When was the Historical Society founded?

The Milan Area Historical Society was established in 1972.

What townships does the Society cover?

We serve Milan, York, and Augusta Townships in Washtenaw County, and Milan and London Townships in Monroe County.

What are the hours of operation for the Hack House?

The Hack House is open the second Sunday of each month from May through August, 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Is admission to the Hack House free?

Yes! Admission is free, though donations are always appreciated to support upkeep and programming.

Are group tours or field trips available?

Yes, we welcome group tours and educational visits. Please contact us to schedule in advance.

Is the museum accessible to visitors with disabilities?

The Fire Barn has a stair lift available. The Hack House has limited accessibility due to its historic nature, but we do our best to accommodate all visitors.

How do I become a member?

Membership is $25 per year and includes access to special events, early program notifications, and exclusive member updates.

an I rent the Old Fire Barn for events?

Yes! The upstairs space is available to rent for private events (max 35 people). It’s $75 with a $50 refundable security deposit.

How can I donate to the Historical Society?

Donations can be made online or by mail. Every dollar helps maintain our properties, fund events, and preserve local history.

Can I volunteer with the Historical Society?

Absolutely! We’re always looking for help with events, tours, research, and more. Reach out to learn how you can get involved.
